China Water: May 24, 2008: Shanghai Bottled Water Show held.

Greetings! A lot of news, particularly Shanghai news today.

Let's start with a story on the Shanghai bottled water show. Although bottled water is a controversial subject in many circles, it is, for better or worse, part of the water situation and, love it or hate it, cannot be neglected.

Currently bottled water companies see bottled water, in part, as a status item that can be marketed to China's large, urban, status-oriented population.

Again, I did not attend this show, and cannot vouch for the contents of this piece. By the way, as with many pieces shared here, it might be nice to let the author know that you like it by visiting his site.(This is a new project for me, and I'm still trying to figure out a way to share this news in a fair and respectful manner. Therefore, if you find something like this of use, please visit the actual sources of news, particularly the smaller and less prominent news sources, whenever possible and let them know that you appreciate and support their efforts. My goal is to make the reposting of their work, a win-win situation for all involved.)

2008 Shanghai China Bottled Water Exhibition (CBW)

by Howard Zhang

The 2008 Shanghai China Bottled Water Exhibition (CBW) was held on April 1-3 in Shanghai at the Pudong Exhibition Center. It was the first exhibition in China only to feature bottled water at a single event. The show marks an important milestone in the development of the bottled water category in China. The initial show still small with about 14 vendors and 1000 visitors is expected it to grow significantly with a rising demand for bottled in China.

None of the major brands of bottled water were represented at the show. Of the domestic Chinese brands two from South of China and one from North were present. We were surprised by the high value of the exhibition booth of some of the vendors clearly trying to enter the China market with initiative and new concepts as well as trying to educate and attract consumers.

The show is currently a platform for all the small and medium Chinese bottled water manufacturers and companies wanting to enter the market. The show will be a yearly event with good opportunities for growth.

The overall goal for the show is to set up a platform for all the bottled water manufactures who look seriously at the Chinese market and its potential.
